PASSAGES

Passages into the past centuries or back to childhood. Feelings of nostalgia or having landed in an aged fairy tale. Vacillating between bitter-sweet recognition and a childlike delight of engaging one’s curiosity and imagination.

Passages that feel like trompe l’oeil: stairs that lead nowhere, a shadow of a fence pretending to be a ladder, boarded windows like the portals to be observed, but not entered. Mirrors that reflect objects from the past. The impression of a stage is strengthened by the appearance of an outdoor theater and a mythical creature that looks like it is guarding an entry.

Passages between the blue skies of a present-day reality and imagined or remembered mysterious parallel worlds.

These images were taken on my trip to Finland and Estonia in June 2019 and printed on Arches paper. I created a handmade book with these images.
